How are you doing?

I'd like to go over a couple other blogging options, such as email posting, but I wanted to get a sense of where everyone is at first.  How are you doing with your blogs?  Are there any outstanding issues that we need to resolve before going forward?

From what I've seen of everyone's blogs, it looks like you've got a good grip on the basics, good job.

Don't forget to archive!!!

There was a recent question about storing your blogs.  You can control the number of entries that show up through archiving.  Under the Settings tab on Dashboard click on Archiving and use the drop down menu to select how frequently you want to archive you blog entries.  I have mine set for monthly, if you are putting up a lot of entries you may want to archive weekly or even daily.

When you finish there, go to Layout and click on edit in the Blog Post box.  The first box lets you select the number of blog entries that will appear on the page.

Any questions, let me know.

We're Close!

While I know many of you have been frustrated by the blogging exercise, I have to admit that it has gone much smoother than I was expecting.  We are having some mystery issues, like why the professor isn't able to add a blog that others of us can (since I have to answer to her, I think I'll blame it on solar flares), or some people having trouble getting their blog to behave the way they expected, but I'm pretty pleased so far.  Think about where we are compared to where we were a week ago - all of you have created an online journal where you can share thoughts and comment on your classmates' work, you've made it to the Blogosphere!!!

Our problems have come from trying to subscribe or link to other sites (relationships can be tough), we can work through those.  Shortly I'll add information about submitting your posts by email, something that could be useful during emergency operations.  Then we'll look at adding other files, including audio (I'm going to have fun with that one).  A couple bumps in the road, but don't give up, you're learning a new medium for communication, once you're comfortable with it you will be able to apply it in many different situations.

Introduction

Welcome, this blog has been created as part of the Emergency Management program at the University of Richmond.  Students in ESM 398U, Writing for Decisions, will be exploring the use of blogs in emergency management.  Each student will create and maintain a blog through out the course.  They will also be expected to review and comment on other students blogs.

This is, for many, a chance to explore a new technology and consider its application in other areas of their personal and professional lives.
