Introduction

Welcome, this blog has been created as part of the Emergency Management program at the University of Richmond.  Students in ESM 398U, Writing for Decisions, will be exploring the use of blogs in emergency management.  Each student will create and maintain a blog through out the course.  They will also be expected to review and comment on other students blogs.

This is, for many, a chance to explore a new technology and consider its application in other areas of their personal and professional lives.

I really like the way that you designed your blog page.

I enjoyed the first assignment with the introduction to the “In Pursuit of Happiness” textbook. I felt that it was a good glimpse into what I want to achieve and yet taking the time to appreciate what I have at the present. Love, power, fun and freedom are the ideal sub categories for the overall concept and I think that almost everything else can fit within the confines of these four elements. I will confess, the snails made me wonder about the content for a brief moment but than I was glad to be proven wrong and laugh at violating the golden rule of judging a book by it‘s cover. I relate it back to the discussion thread that we had: those that can write the difficult messages on the lowest possible grade level effectively are very smart. That is true in this book's case. This is one of the most difficult topics to cover and intelligent people spend their lifetimes searching for this intangible but easily attainable "thing", "idea", or "feeling".Yet, here it is in as simple language as possible to help us help ourselves in finding that. I liked how it says that it is not necessarily a quest to find the hidden but rather it is a way to learn how to see and identify what is already there using yourself as the agent that brings about that revelation.

What are your opinions? How did you like the content?
